What's my next writing projects?

This month's topic is: What is on your writing to-do list for this year? Do you have any long-range goals or just wrap-ups?

I have to admit that even with all of the time I've had to write, I've gotten very little new written since March. I finished off and published one new book, and self-published seven previously-published books on Smashwords. But about the only new writing I've been doing lately is reviews of what I've been reading.

I've got at least 3 books in partial stages of completion in my laptop. One came from a dream I had months ago. One is a long-delayed sequel to my first series, my Reyes Family Romances. And one is based on an idea that's been kicking around in my head for a long time. But since the hero in this one has to be a Scottish man, I've been having trouble with it, since the Scottish accent doesn't say "Hey, sexy man in a kilt," to me. Instead, it says, "Oh, hi Dad," since me faither was from Glesga. LOL.

So I've been keeping busy doing promotions, guest blogs, and writing reviews for The TBR Pile--/thetbrpile.weebly.com/

My New Year's resolution is to lose myself in my writing again. Forget about the politics of the day. Forget about the pandemic--worrying about it won't get me a vaccine any sooner. And instead remember that any author is only as good as their most recent book. I have one coming out next Friday, Jan. 29th. After that? Well, I need to limber up my fingers and get to typing!

The pandemic and social containment/isolation has affected everyone, but you have accomplished your goals. Those characters playing in your mind will emerge and drive you to finished stories! Good luck (and good health) in 2021.

Well, some of my goals, anyway, Robin. I made sure that all of my books are available--even if no publisher would take them, since some are still listed on the big A, in case a buyer wants to resell their paperbacks. But I need to do some NEW writing. Plenty of time for it--since I'm not returning to subbing until I get both vaccines. Thanks for stopping by.

Scottish accents are incredibly sexy. LOL Just think of Jamie from The Outlander series. Maybe that will help. It does me. LOL Yeah, the pandemic has been rough on everyone. Hopefully, we’re on our way out and can get back to normal soon.

I've never watched The Outlander for that specific reason. I heard that accent every day of my life since I was born--until me faither passed on. I used to email him leading questions, asking about his mandatory 2-years in the British Army, his life growing up in the tenements of Glasgow, during WWII, etc. He'd send me long involved stories, and somehow when he wrote, he wrote with the same accent he spoke with. I printed all of them, and have them in a folder. I told him I was doing it, after a while, and he asked why. I said that long after he was gone, when my kids would ask "What did Grampa Mac sound like?" I'd give them the folder and tell them to read it out loud, just as it's written. THAT'S what he sounded like. So the accent isnae as much sexy to me, as familiar, like an old slipper. LOL. Glad you came by, Marci.

Curiously, when I read The Help some years ago, I heard the whole thing in a wonderful Southern drawl.

You have accomplished a lot in a difficult year. Promoting, blogging, and writing reviews all takes time, too. I'm sure you'll hit your 2021 goals.

Thanks for the support, Victoria. I'm always harder on myself than other people are--it's tough to be such a perfectionist. But I told myself for years that I'd be SO prolific if I just wasn't working 2 jobs--I'd have the time. Now I've got time, but find it hard to concentrate. Hopefully with the new year, I can get back to it.

Fiona, I know what you mean about reading to review getting in the way of writing. That and editing take big chunks out of my time too, but then we don't want our thinking to become inbred.

Thanks for coming by, Bob. Actually it's not that reading and reviewing is taking up my time. It's the opposite. I'm doing that to try to at least keep myself writing SOMETHING. But it's also earning me some free promo on the site I review for, so at least that's a good thing.

If you're having trouble with sexy man in a kilt - you need to LISTEN (Get the audible as opposed to reading) to Clanlands by Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish. The book was undertaken as the two men, stars in the Outlander series, decided to tour Scotland visiting various sites of interest and telling the history along the way. But the two of them read their book with the banter of two friends and a lot of humor. Sam is the one considered Sexy man in a Kilt, which he surely is, but Graham is equally appealing. I have already listened to it twice and they are a stitch. Might give you some ideas on where to leap off with your hero.

I understand what you're saying, Skye. My mom thought me faither's accent was entrancing--that and his blue-gray eyes were the reasons she married him--oh, and he was a great ballroom dancer, also. But the accent is SO NOT SEXY to me! I mean, I can smile at those "sexy man in a kilt doing yoga" shorts that tour FB periodically--and I keep hoping the guys will turn around when they're upside down--but of course they don't. But I can admire a cute man and his cute ass, no matter what his nationality is. But the accent is "Hello, Dad," to me. And I NEVER had any thoughts of my own dad being sexy. EW! LOL!

I've gotten to the point I totally forget about the pandemic while I'm working from home and writing. The news always startles me back to reality. So I go back to write or edit! Best of luck with your new projects!
