In the epilogue for book 2, Only One Man Will Do, Raul and Ivan are celebrating Raul's happiness, as well as that of the biker babe he feared, now married to Ivan's cousin Dmitri.
Raul smiled, "That was the best wedding present you could have given me, Ivan."
They clinked their glasses together again.
"And it seems to have worked out well for them also," Raul observed. "Now we have to find a woman for you."
Ivan's laughter was loud and infectious. "I'm in no hurry, my friend. This country has given me so much already. I can wait."
"You think she's just going to walk in your door someday?"
Ivan smiled. "Da. Someday she will. And I'll be here waiting for her."

She's ex-CIA, a hunted woman used to relying only on herself. He's ex-KGB. with connections to those who can help her. Will she let him? Can glasnost (openness) lead to rapprochement (a bringing together), and maybe even to love as west meets east? And what about her daughter? Can she salvage any kind of relationship with the adult her child has become?
Set-up for excerpt: Stella's estranged daughter from her failed marriage has invited her to share a two-week stay at a resort in upper Minnesota. It's a chance for them to develop a real relationship, which Stella has always wanted. She gets to the resort before her world-famous movie star daughter...
Since there was still no sign of Ivan, Stella headed up the staircase that led to a dining room lit by a huge wall of picture windows with a panoramic view of a beautiful lake. No one was seated at any of the tables set for meals, but it was obviously a popular restaurant judging by the worn spots on the hard wood floor that led to the tables closest to the windows.
"Hello?" Stella called, still seeking someone to check in with. "Is anyone around? I'm looking for Ivan."
"And you have found him," a large booming voice said from behind her. She turned around to get her first glimpse of her host.
****
When Ivan walked into the dining room from the bar, he was busy working through the details of his part in an upcoming yearly party. He usually supplied many of the servers and his chef liked to contribute one of the courses. He looked up in surprise when he entered the room and unexpectedly saw the back of his newest guest. She had an attractive figure with an athletic build, and the sundress she was wearing showed off her toned arms and the curve of her shoulders. But when she turned around to face him, he was immediately struck by two unusual sensations.
The first was a distinct feeling that he had met her before.
But that's impossible! I've never met the mother of my good friend Kelly. She told me that her mother and father got divorced when she was young, and that her mother traveled a lot for her job. Maybe that's it? Maybe I saw her when I was newly-arrived in the U.S.? I used to travel a lot also.
When the woman smiled, he was too involved with his thoughts to respond.
Is it just that she resembles her daughter so much? Their coloring is different of course. Kelly is blonde, while this woman has light brown hair with the faintest streaks of gray. Kelly is light-skinned, but this woman appears to be from the Mediterranean, based on her olive skin and her dark brown eyes. But they have similar features. And her smile shows me the origin of Kelly's dimples.
The second feeling was harder to dismiss...literally. Ivan had gradually become resigned to the reality of being a fifty-year-old man, whose hormonal surges were a thing of the past. But at this moment, he felt himself hardening as if he was a teenager again!
She's so beautiful! I want to do strip her naked and push her over the table!
His breathing sped up and he could feel and hear the pulse of his blood as it abandoned most of his body parts to rush down to where it felt it was needed the most. His nostrils flared as he tried to control the urges he'd thought were behind him.
Damn! I hope my reaction is escaping her notice. She's expecting to be greeted by her genial host, not by a sex-crazed lust-monster! I must get control over myself.
He cleared his throat, wondering if it had really been only a few seconds since he'd walked into the room, but unsure because the smile on her face seemed to be fading as she waited for him to speak again.
****
Stella smiled at her host, wondering why he seemed so hesitant to speak again. She waited politely for a few moments, then spoke to break the silence.
"Are you Ivan? Kelly told me to ask for you if I arrived before she did. I sent her a text when I pulled into the parking lot, but she had warned me that cell phone signals are problematic up here."
"They are indeed," he said, forcing himself to concentrate on her words and how he should respond. "Kelly hasn't arrived yet, but she asked me to show you to your cabin, and to give you a tour of the grounds, so you would know where to find whatever you need."

Now out: the 4th Minnesota Romance:
No More Secrets
Book number four in the Minnesota Romances series finally gives Kelly Ann Sheridan, Raul's co-star in movies, her own HEA romance. Remember that in For the Love of His Life, Raul is dismayed to realize how much younger his co-star is. When she asks him to pinkie-swear that they will be good friends, it solidifies his belief that he's right. But she proves to him that she can be trusted, by the end of the book.
We see them both next in Her Last Resort, when Kelly wants to re-connect with her estranged mother, who left the family years ago, to continue her career as a CIA agent. She invites her mom to join her for two weeks up in Grand Marais, staying at the resort owned by Ivan, who is rumored to be an ex-KGB agent. During their stay, Kelly introduces Stella, her mom, to Raul and Ronnie, who live in a mansion on a hill, with their young children. Kelly and her mom attend Raul's third yearly bash that invites all of the residents of the town he feels so welcome in, to come celebrate with him. By the end of this book, Stella and Ivan are well on their way to their own HEA. Raul and Ronnie remain happy. Even Jared, their director, is still happily married. But Kelly is still alone.
Until now!
When I wanted to give her a hero worthy of this feisty, opinionated blonde, I had to think long and hard about what kind of man could stand toe-to-toe with her as her equal. Then I remembered Tomás, the third part of the love triangle in Undercover Lovers, the second of my female spies book. In UL, he was only twenty-five years old, and a total adrenaline junkie--he enjoyed every minute of his exciting, world-wide adventures, doing the hard, often dangerous things required to keep the world safe for ordinary folks. And he played just as hard as he worked. When Ameena and Adam tried to explain to him that since they were older than, they both wanted more out of a relationship than just a short assignation, he couldn't understand their viewpoint. But now he's ten years older. Is he ready yet? Is Kelly?
Kelly, Raul, and Jared are down in Colombia, making a historical movie, filming in a mansion owned by Señor Velasguez, who doesn't mind Kelly's open independence, as long as his wife doesn't get any weird ideas from her. Tomás is the replacement tutor for the Velasguez family, while their regular tutor is visiting a sick relative. Here is how they meet:
"Why don't you stop lying and admit why you're here? You're no more a tutor than I am, señor Gomez. And that's not even your real name, is it?"
Tomás froze. Time stood still around him, and it took every ounce of self-control he'd perfected over the years to keep smiling. My worst nightmare: being outed on an assignment! And it's coming from someone I never would have suspected. I crossed the room to talk to this sexy, curvaceous blonde hoping to flirt with her for a while, to pass the time at this boring party. And now? Shit, she's expecting me to respond. His first attempt at speech came out as a croak. He cleared his throat and tried again. "What makes you think that?"
She popped an appetizer into her mouth, watching him intently while chewing slowly, then took a sip of her drink before shrugging. "You don't look like a Felipe to me, that's all. And as for being a tutor? You may be acting as if you're one, but that's the key word, isn't it? Acting?"
Tomás glanced quickly around the room. He was relieved to see that no one appeared to be paying any attention to their conversation. I don't want to kill her. How can I neutralize this threat? "You don't think I'm a tutor? Or that my name is Felipe Gomez? Then who do you think I am, Ms. Sheridan?"
She smiled conspiratorially at him, leaning closer to speak. "Don't get me wrong. I'd be doing the same thing, if I was you. If I'd have heard that an Oscar-winning indie director was going to be filming in a mansion in my country, and that he'd be bringing some world-famous stars with him, I'd have taken a job cleaning toilets, if that's what it took to get me access to meeting any of them, let alone all of them."
With her head she nodded quickly at Jared Miller, the director who was having an animated discussion with their host. She also nodded at Raul Roderick, her co-star, who was amusing a crowd of young people who were jostling each other to get closer to the famous action-movie star. "See, since I'm one of them, they're just people to me. Good friends of mine, actually. But I can see how an aspiring actor might want to use any of us to get a break."
He had to force himself not to laugh, as he realized what she thought of him. Relief washed over him-- he had to work hard to keep it off of his face. She thinks I'm an actor? ¡Díos mio! Is that all? Continuing his role, he mirrored her, leaning closer to her as well. "Well? Can you put in a good word for me? Get me a bit part or anything?"
She shook her head slowly. "No. And for a couple of reasons."
His face reflected the disappointment he knew she expected to see. "Reasons?"
"One, Jared doesn't like to be approached when he's not expecting it. He doesn't even live in LA because he doesn't want wanna-bes plaguing him all of the time. He goes through his agent when he's looking for actors for his movies. So though he would no doubt be polite to his host's children's tutor, he'd likely shut you down quickly if you were to ask him directly for a role."
"And the other reason?"
"Getting a break like being cast in one of Jared's movies, shouldn't come easily. You have to do your time, acting in a bunch of crap, so you'll know the difference, when you have a master like him to show you what you're capable of."
She nodded her head towards her co-star again. "That's what happened to Raul and me. We were both sick and tired of being cast as eye-candy, having to strip nude in every other scene. When Jared cast the two of us in his pet project years ago, everyone warned him that he'd chosen the wrong actors--that neither of us had any real talent."
Tomás nodded. "Wasn't that his historical movie, set up in Minnesota, USA?"
He deliberately pronounced it ooh-sa, to make it clear he was a Hispanic person, and not from the USA.
She nodded. "Yeah. But we showed them all. We both won Oscars for our parts, and Jared won for best director."
Now that the danger was past, Tomás enjoyed watching her expressive face as she spoke. In the space of a few minutes she'd looked mature as if lecturing a student, then nostalgic, and now she was back to being conversational. But her eyes were always bright and inquisitive, as if nothing passed her notice. Note to self: don't ever underestimate this blonde.
"So you need to earn your big break also. Keep on tutoring the kids if you want to, but don't expect meeting all of us to lead to anything more than a connection you can call on sometime in the future."
Tomás nodded. "Understood, señorita."
Kelly smiled, nodding at Jared, who was waving to her, inviting her to join in his conversation. "Duty calls. See you later, señor Gomez,-though-that-isn't-your-real-name." She winked at him before turning her back on him, to sashay over to join her director and her host.
His lips curled into a smile as he enjoyed watching her ass move as she walked, her tight jeans hugging her every curve. Realizing he needed to release some stress, he nodded politely at the people he passed on his way to the bathroom. Once in the room he locked the door. He turned to sit on the closed toilet seat, taking several deep breaths. While he was getting his breathing and heartbeat back under the iron control he prided himself on, he thought about the woman who'd given him such a scare.
Although he'd seen her in movies before, he first saw her in person from across the room, and he'd spent some time admiring her. She was the embodiment of the classic All-American-Girl. Her tanned skin was complemented by long blonde hair with streaks of gold in it. Her large blue eyes were enhanced by long lashes that gave her face an appealing girlish look. She was curvy in all of the right places, though also trim and fit, with legs that were obviously used to running, and glutes that asked to be squeezed. Her ready smile and easy laugh made her a pleasure to spend time with, judging by the crowd of men always gathered around her, vying for a tiny part of her attention.
He had to remind himself that he was on assignment. He often chose women like her to spend his rare vacation time with--she was most definitely his preferred type. He'd enjoyed all kinds of women all over the world for many years. Though he didn't consider himself gay, he'd also enjoyed occasional liaisons with men--and had never been known to turn down a ménage with any combination of participants. But at heart he was partial to the kind of California girls from American movies and TV shows, who had seemed so unobtainable when he was growing up poor near Guadalajara.
He shook his head to get his mind back into the game. I'm not here to get laid. I don't get that much time off from tutoring the kids, and I still haven't located what I was sent here to get. Got to focus on that, over anything else.
