My post of June 26th was for the Charity Sunday blog hop. Authors post an excerpt or a blurb, and for every comment left on the post, they donate $ to causes they support.

I only got 5 responses, but I left a rejoinder for each of them. So that made for 10 responses. So today I donated $20 each to my choices:
Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)--They do important work to end discrimination against any marginalized people. They were the first organization to link misogyny to efforts to end health choices for females. They support voting rights and the rights of all of us to be called what we choose, with our preferred pronouns--and to have the unencumbered right to vote as we choose. Whenever I can afford it, I contribute to the essential work they do. Even the feds have been helped in identifying the racist, white supremacist hate groups by the research done by the SPLC.

And NARAL, fighting for not only a pro-choice USA, but a pro-women's- health USA. They advocate for non-discrimination policies against those who do become pregnant, who, unbelievably as it may seem, can still meet with workplace prejudices about whether or not they can still do their job. They advocate for all humans being able to make the best choices for their own health, as they can.

Time for another blog hop involving steamy scenes. This month I've got an excerpt from my one and only vampire saga: Prophecy of the Mayan Undead. Originally published as a long book, with a novella sequel, when the publisher closed I got the rights back. So I combined them into a longer saga, with the complete story arc.

I usually complain that while paranormal is my favorite genre to read, my muse rarely gives me paranormal inspiration. But for this story, the hero spoke directly to me in a dream. I was having a rare writer's block after the first chapter, and put it down. A few nights later, I had a dream in which a tall blond man told me I was having trouble with the WIP because I was "giving her the wrong hero. It has to be me." Then he smiled, showing me his fangs. I told him I don't write vampires--too over-done. He shrugged and told me to research the Mayans. The next morning I did, only to find they had blood sacrifices in every religious and public spectacle they had. Why? Well...if their gods were vampires...
After that, the story wrote itself.

In this scene, Keesha has been shot by the two men who kidnapped her and tied her up, then stuffed her into the trunk of a car. She knows she's dying, but Yuri, the man she met once before, is urging her to listen to him--now that he's dealt with the two bad guys.

"Keesha, look at me."
   The voice sounded vaguely familiar, but very distant, as if she was moving far away from him. She tried to focus her gaze, seeing only the outline of a man's torso, with a face barely visible, topped with white hair that shone in the dim moonlight.
   "I had hoped to spare you this, but I have no other choice now. I can't lose you. I won't. But you must choose right now, before it's too late. Do you want to live?"
   In her mind she giggled. But all that came out of her mouth was a gargling sound. "Um, yeah. Don't think--option anymore--"
   "Yes, it is. But if I do this thing, you'll be changed. You'll be alive, yet not alive. Are you sure you want me to do this?"
   Her head nodded up and down. Darkness began to descend, her vision clouded by the blood that was everywhere now. She felt herself drifting off. Am I going anywhere? Or will I just lose consciousness, and have no more thoughts?
   Suddenly her mind was invaded by a tall, blond man with an intense look in his eyes. There was an icy fire in their blue depths.
   What are you doing here? I'm busy dying. Who are you?
   You are dying, but not in the way you expect. What I'm doing is ensuring that you will wake up again tomorrow night. What images would you like me to entertain you with, as your body dies?
   She tried to shrug, but was unable to move any part of her body. She felt herself being held by strong arms, with the tiny hairs on her neck standing at full attention. The lips on her neck created a drowsy, drugged feeling in her mind.
   His words whispered in her brain. How about something erotic?
   Yes, please.
   She was suddenly on a downy-soft bed, naked, with a man's head between her thighs. His tongue was driving her mad with desire, as he alternated between licking her from front to back, then nibbling on her clit gently. When his fingers pulled the hood back and his teeth grazed her clit, she screamed with pleasure as the orgasm crashed through her with the force of a tsunami. She felt herself rise up off of the bed with the tightening of her muscles. The man loomed above her, spreading her thighs uncomfortably wide, as his hips surged forward. The pleasure she had just felt, multiplied, as his massive organ pushed its way into her, stretching her almost beyond comfort. He filled her, then withdrew--only to slam into her again and again. It was almost more than she could bear! She screamed as he came, the force of his orgasm making her spasm with an intensity to match his own. He growled like a wild animal as he pulsated inside of her, her muscles clenching around him, her orgasms like a roller coaster of pleasure, pushing her up a hill then crashing her down on the other side.
   The last thing she heard was his voice. Drink. Drink deeply. Take as much as you can hold. I have emptied you. Now fill yourself with me.
   I'm already filled with you. Her thoughts were her own, but inexplicably she felt his chest move as he chuckled. Everything went black, as she drifted off into nothingness.

I mean, if you're going to have to die to be reborn, what a way to go, right? LOL! The next scene is when she wakes up the next night, feeling sick, and he tells her to use the bathroom until she's done. He advises her to take a hot shower, which will make her feel much better. Then he will answer her questions. I don't know about you, but I'd sure have a lot of them! She does too.

I love spy stories, but I don't want to be the reward for the spy, or the damsel in distress who needs rescuing. I want to BE the spy with the mad skills! My favorite place to go camping, if we have the time, is up near Grand Marais, Minnesota. In fact, I love it up there so much, one year I was tearing up as we began our drive south to return home. So I started thinking of how if you fell in love with a local, you could move up there and live there forever, surrounded by the beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area--BWCA. But of course, I didn't want to make it easy on my leads.

Raul is an action movie star who removes his shirt in all of his movies--most think he's just a pretty face, and he's riding the fame train while he can. When an indie director decides he's perfect to star in his next movie, he goes on a spree to celebrate--then gets arrested for driving under the influence of anything he can get his hands on. The director sends Raul up to Grand Marais to stay at his grandmother's resort, after asking his cousin Veronica, a native of the BWCA, to teach the actor how to appear as if he's at home up there--where their ancestor, who the new movie is about, founded the town. Raul tries to seduce the cousin, and she laughs at him. Not the best way for a relationship to start--especially since he's never been in love. He's been a player his whole life. When he starts having real feelings, he doesn't even understand them. Is there any hope for them?
