What are you looking forward to in 2014?
As an author, I'm looking forward to continuing to be the medium for my muse, who regularly entertains me with new characters and their romances. I've been averaging 3 books per year for the last 5 years, and I'd like to keep up that momentum.
I'm also going to try to pay less attention to everyone else's success, and to stop considering myself a "failure" because I'm not making any best-seller lists. I'm going to keep telling myself that as long as publishers continue to give me contracts, SOMEONE in the business thinks I'm writing good books. As long as reviewers give me good reviews, someone ELSE does also. I'd like to try to gain more readers, but paying for promotions with household money is never a good idea. So I'll keep hoping that the idea that the best way to gain new readers is to keep writing, is a truism. And maybe this will be the year that I land on someone's "auto-buy" list. Now that's a goal to look forward to!
As a person, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to keep trying to become a better version of "me". I joined a gym earlier this year, and the only thing stopping me from my goal of getting there at least 3 times per week is the amount of hours I'm working my "bread-money" jobs every week. I don't beat myself up when I can't get there, but when it's a choice between keeping up with promoting my books on-line and writing, or doing something else, it's always really hard to choose that something else...even when it's so good for me, like getting to that treadmill and working up a sweat!
