Candy Spiders
2 cups chocolate chips
1½ cups crispy-rice cereal
1/2 cup shredded coconut
chow mein noodles
Melt the chocolate either in the microwave on half-power, or in a small pot, keeping an eye on it so it doesn't burn. Stir in the cereal and the coconut.
Drop by TBSP. onto waxed paper on a cookie sheet, to form the bodies. Stick 2-3 chow mein noodles into each side of each spider, to form the legs. You can use icing to make eyes, but I prefer to keep it simple, so my spiders have no eyes. But as my kids used to point out, they aren't spiders either because they don't have 8 legs! You have to work fast to get all of the legs in before the chocolate starts to harden.
Put the cookie trays into the freezer until the chocolate is hard. You can put the spiders into a container and they will keep well in the freezer for as long as you can stop yourself from eating all of them!
Makes about 30 spiders, depending on size. In this case, bigger is not better! Happy Halloween!
