This year my favorite series to read was the Dragonriders of Pern, by Anne MacCaffrey. I own the first 3 books, as well as a few outliers. But I went to the library and wrote down the copyrights for all of them, and devoured them all over the span of a month or so. And that's a LOT of books! Not only did Anne write so many, but her son Todd took over the series because, as he pointed out, he literally "grew up" with the characters, since his mom must have been like me, talking over plot points with the only one(s) in the family who would listen.
What I really enjoyed about the Pern books was the idea of another being living inside of your head, linked to you. In this case, it's a dragon who will be able to fly when it gets big enough, and you'll be able to ride it. And they can also instantaneously travel from one place to another--or one time to another. Great stuff! The only thing I didn't like was that in Todd's books, unlike Anne's books, the females are always so much younger than the males they take up with. A man in his 40's with a girl under 18? Bleah! There aren't really any sexy bits in most of the books, but still, that totally turned me off. I read all of the books, but I have to say I did it only so that I could be done with them.
