So what did he pick for us to watch this week?
Now You See Me: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1670345/?ref_=sr_1
This movie reminded me of The Sting in that just when you thought you had the plot figured out, everything changed. It's about four magicians who join forces together to pull of three enormous, world-wide illusions. Are they criminals? Or just publicity hounds? Are they doing it to get rich and famous? Who are the good guys, who are the bad guys? I was thrilled to once again be watching a movie that wasn't a remake, or a sequel, or in any way similar to the recent hit movies. This one was engrossing and enjoyable.
Warm Bodies: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588173/?ref_=sr_1
This is a very sweet retelling of a classic love story...with zombies. Lots and lots of brain-eating zombies, some of whom peel off their own skin to become what the others call "bonies". But one of the still-almost-human-looking zombies who used to be a young man has an epiphany of sorts when he sees an alive female and doesn't want to chew on her brains, but instead is driven to protect her from being eaten. Why? That's what the rest of the movie is about. It's a sweet love story with a happy ending. I really enjoyed this one.
P.S. My husband is getting concerned that my movie tastes are getting too "girly". But he picked out these two movies. And besides, since I'm looking forward to Machete Kills, starring Danny Trejo, directed by Robert Rodriguez, as much as he is, I told him no worries, I still love movies with aliens, starships, and lots and lots of explosions.
