Each book I fall in love with Ink more, since he's growing and changing. As a lust demon, an incubus, he's not supposed to be able to feel emotions. But having become human briefly in Badge, to save Layla's life, then almost dying, seems to have given him the ability to feel emotions that are dangerous for an immortal sin to feel. His dilemma becomes very clear in this book.
Then there's Cal, the werewolf who hates what he is, because of his horrible, abusive childhood. And the fact that he will be forced to kill his only surviving brother at some point in the future. Reading his thoughts is tough, since he's in so much pain. But it makes his behavior toward Layla and the other men in her life, more understandable.
Garavel is a demi-angel, the most recent man to join Layla's fan club. But he's never experienced anything of physical love. Will he ever work up the nerve to approach Layla? And poor Daniel is also growing and changing, and not necessarily in a good way. He's still not corporeal, so he can't express his love to Layla--yet. But she's still trying to accumulate the ingredients for the spell to bring him back to being alive. Will she be able to do it?
And what about the mysterious Mr. White? The being who is using Cal's older brother as his pit bull, to achieve his unholy ends. When will he make his moves, and will Layla be strong enough, even with all of her men, to fight him? And Layla's mother isn't dead? What's that all about?
So many questions, and more books to come! While I want to get to the end, to see what the author has in mind for Layla and her coven, I'm eagerly awaiting the next book, just for another chance to live in the heads of all of these characters I've grown to love so much. If you've never read any of these books, what are you waiting for? Start with Ink, then work your way through all of the books. Then let's talk about which of the men you love the most. Or if you're like me, and you love ALL of them! As I've said before, in my next life, I want to be Layla!
